Parodies Of Classical Poetry

Captain, Captain
Roxanne — 03 Jul 1998

Anyone for a little William Blake?

I know, I'm slow on the draw, so sue me already. I know a good lawyer.

Captain! Captain! Guiding light,
What is this thing that's in our sight?
Here we are far from our home.
How much further must we roam.

In these distant stars and skies,
How can you not hear our cries?
On that array which you did fire,
Did all our hopes and dreams aspire.

Now from the Kazon we must dart,
For on this voyage we must start.
We must go on and not retreat
As long as we have harts that beat.

What is this rule you so oft quote?
Don't we even have a vote?
Why must you decided our fate?
Can't there even be debate?

And when you shot up our last hope,
With what issues did you grope?
Did you think how we must feel,
When you signed us in this deal?

Captain! Captain! Guiding light,
What is this thing that's in our sight.
Here we are far from our home.
How much further must we roam?
