The Very Farthest Star
Jennifer — 7 Feb 1999

Sung to A Little Fall Of Rain from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Les Misérables

Hello all...I love what you've done with "Rainbow Connection." I said that I'd had Les Mis on my mind. This may not be part of the parody I'm trying to conceive, but it is to the tune of a Les Mis song: "A Little Fall Of Rain." That's Eponine's death scene, one of the most poignant moments in the show. I've tried to keep the poignant quality. Now, this may be a little overdue, but I only saw "Drone" for the first time a few weeks ago. I hope that this will be as touching as the other "Drone" theme songs, especially the one to the tune of Vincent.

So, imagine One's death scene...

One: Don't you fret, Seven of Nine,
I won't be going far,
The very farthest star
Can nonetheless be seen...
You're safe...that's all I need to know.
And you'll live on for years,
And you'll return to Earth,
And stars, from far away, still glow.

Seven: But you deserve to live,
Oh don't you see!
Please stop, my little One,
You're hurting me...!

One: I'd hurt you worse if I should stay,
Please believe it's best this way...

Seven: There are still so many things
That you should live to learn,
You've hardly had your turn...

One: A star should glow, not burn...
This star will shine to light your way...
You taught me all you knew,
And I can still teach you,
For don't you see, I still will stay.

The star I light for you will guide you on...
If you will just remember what I've done...
And through yourself you'll let it shine,
I'll be near you,
Mother mine...

(They sing in counterpoint.)

One: So don't you fret, Seven of Nine,
I won't be going far...
The very farthest star
Can nonetheless be seen...

Seven: Hush-a-bye, my little One,
Please say you won't be far...
The very farthest star
Can nonetheless be seen...

Seven: We're safe...

One: That's all I need to know.

One: And you'll live on for years,
And you'll return to Earth...

Seven: I will let your star shine on,
I swear it...

Both: And stars, from far away, still...

(One dies.)

Seven: ...glow.

Hope you liked it! A good MIDI of this song is on the page of a Les Mis parody called "Beverly Hills, 24601". Which is worth reading in itself.
