"Who would have thought that this eclectic group of voyagers could actually become a family. Starfleet, Maquis, Klingon, Talaxian, hologram, Borg... even Mr Paris." |
Cathexis
"You've placed the Coyote Stone at the crossroads of the fifth and sixth realms, which would divert Commander Chakotay's soul that is, his consciousness, into the Mountains of the Antelope Women. According to his tradition, an extremely attractive locale. He might not want to leave." -- the Doctor Jules Clever plot, IMO. I had a lot of fun figuring this one out, as I recall; and so often (forgive me, O House of Janeway!) I had no trouble at all with Voyager's "mysteries." I do wish this Chakotay had stayed around. With the actor flat on his back in sickbay, his character dominated the story - and made it intriguing. Come to think of it, everyone's characters were spot on here. Not that I could realize it properly, this early in Season One, of course. It always seemed like a very thin story to me (sorry to disagree dear Nina) I dont mind watching this one...i like B'Elanna's dream wheel-love for Chakotay and respect for his beliefs...ive always been a fan of the floating-consciousness special effect... there's nothing terribly wrong w/the ep, it just feels sort of...there, to me. david g Re: I had fun with the touchy feely Janeway. However, I did have trouble with Janeway's apparant trust of Tuvok when he had clearly been compromised by the aliens from the start. If I had been Janeway, I would have put him under surveillance the minute I realized the shuttle had been compromised. Roxanne Nothing wrong with disagreeing, david g. OK, but not a favorite episode (smiley of a sideways thumb or shrugging shoulders). Holonovel - sets the Gothic, paranoid theme for the episode but not one of TPTB's better ideas. Was this filmed after the most recent "Rebecca"? Looks like they deliberately made the actress playing the housekeeper resemble Dianna Rigg as Mrs. Danvers. Nits: "Ancient England"? - 500 years in the past isn't ancient (they did the same thing on TNG with "The Ancient West"); Janeway calls Burleigh "Your Grace", which I believe is only for Dukes, but he's referred to as "Lord Burleigh". There were a number of firsts in this one, mostly for Tuvok - the first time his mind gets taken over, the first mention of mind meld and the first neck pinch. Kes's telepathic abilities have been mentioned before but this is the first time they're shown as more than the telepathic communication with the other Ocompa. Some reminders that this is still Season 1: Torres didn't yet have the authorization to eject the warp core. The surprised look on Harry's face when Janeway leaves him in charge on the bridge. Neelix's jealousy. Don't forget to watch for Tom and Tuvy's amazing pips! Now you see them, now you don't. Now, you do. Now, you don't. Now... Re: I found that the story line kept me guessing. The make-up was rather heavy handed--it became more subtle in later years, and Russ's eyebrows were not as eloquent. The actors were all into their characters and seemed to really care. But touchy-feely Janeway--that was definitely sexual harrassment though Chakotay seemed to ignore it. I am more impressed by Season One than I was at the time, though I fell in love with the characters immediately. Stop!!! You're making me dizzy! Biggest mistake they ever made too. I think they should have kept Tuvok a Lt. Comm. and kept Tom and B'Elanna as Full Lts. Oh well. Shadda Hmmmm, help this old girl out, Nina... Exactly "what" are you apologizing for? Unlike david... I agree with you on this one. Not in my top 10, but definately an enjoyable episode. It DID keep ME guessing for quite a while. I still remember puzzling over Chak's apology for "roughing up" Tuvok. Initially I thought it was a PTB mistake, then I realized "I" wasn't keeping proper track of "who" was occupying who at a given point of time. I too liked the little things we learned in this ep. Janeway, while commanding a combined crew had not yet divided her commmand codes between her senior officers. Torres, although becoming a valued member of the senior staff, still couldn't eject the warp core on her own. Something she obviously could do by season 4's DOH. The continuity with Chak's spiritual backstory, and the way it was used to showcase not only the Doc's widereaching knowledge, but the way out of the land of the antelope women/dark matter nebula. Neelix's paranoia... (never liked his jealousy) over how people sat/ordered their meals, and how the EMH turned that same type of analysis against him. Not to mention the Doc's "I'd write a paper if there was a forum to publish it" remark. (Sounds like he has to go visit the Beowolf simulation again for a little boasting!) I loved seeing that people hovering in the background actually had names and in this ep at least one guy had "multiple" scenes... Alas... poor Durst... how little did we know TPTB would turn our Trek rules against us "so soon". Its NOT only the characters without names that have to worry about beaming down to planets on Star Trek. As for the "sexual harrassment" charge...
I thought she was just using the 20th century version of "Therapeutic Touch"... or the 21st century version of "Reiki therapy"... or the 14th century version of "The King's/Queen's touch.
